What is HD Radio™?

HD Radio™ is a Digital technology that allows a radio broadcaster to digitally transmit additional data in the same radio wave enabling higher quality sound and the ability to transfer additional content and information. HD Radio™ technology makes AM stations have FM-like sound quality, while FM stations can be heard with CD-like sound quality. Unlike typical FM or AM transmission however,
HD Radio™ has crystal clear reception with low noise and no audio distortion. The best part is that HD Radio™ is FREE OF CHARGE to you - all you need is a new receiver to experience this new and exciting radio content!

Multicasting - more content and more listening options!

Multicasting allows you to access additional channels on HD Radio™ on any HD Radio™ receiver. These "stations in between the stations" contain exciting new programming that can't be found on your typical radio stations such as: new radio formats, additional music content, new music genre and talk radio formats, and even experimental content that, until now, have not been heard through other radio broadcast mediums.

All About iTunes® Tagging

iBiquity Digital Corporation, iTunes and eight major radio broadcasting groups have joined forces to create a new service called “iTunes Tagging.”

iTunes Tagging is the newest mass consumer service from local broadcasters enabled by HD Radio™ technology. iTunes Tagging enables consumers to “tag” and download songs played by HD Radio broadcasters and buy them on iTunes. The technology allows for tagging of the main HD1 channel as well as HD2/HD3 multicast channels.

  • Hear it, Tag it. Virtually everyone has, at one time or the other, heard a song on the radio and wanted to identify and buy it. We hope for the DJ to say the name so that we can write it down, log on, search for the version of the song we think we heard and then purchase it. Wish you could push a button instead? Well, that is what iTunes Tagging does.
  • It’s Easy. When you hear a song you like on participating HD Radio stations, simply push the "Tag" button on your iTunes Tagging-enabled HD Radio receiver, (you don't need to have your iPod docked; the receiver will remember your selections for when you next dock your iPod). When connected to your iPod, the receiver will upload information straight to your iPod. The next time your iPod is synched to iTunes the tagged songs will appear as a list of tagged songs, which can be previewed, purchased and downloaded
  • High-Quality Devices. The tagging feature is available in both home and auto receivers, including products from the following manufacturers: Alpine, Dual, Insignia, JBL, Jensen, JVC, Kenwood, Polk Audio, Sony, TEAC and Yamaha.
  • Cost of Convenience. There are no subscription fees for HD Radio broadcasts, or for iTunes Tagging.
